I know it's a program, an HP program, but it's behaving like spyware... HpBootOptimizer is the name... Anyone have this come up before and know if it's ok to disable or deny access rights? or remove it completely?

I don't think that there's anything wrong with it-but I'm not sure you want to disable\uninstall it. Probably worth checking with HP support if you are seriously considering it.

I did some searching & it comes back just fine. You might want to do a spyware check though-sounds like you have something.

I refurbed an HP for resale about a year ago.

First of all disable all of that HP garbage. The recovery center, picture manager, ALL OF IT.

Bunch of crap that takes up resources and is not vital for the system to run properly.

Windows Media Edition is flawed, but I guess it does not matter since windows vista is coming out within the year.

Good Luck.
